Surabaya’s Young Generation is Enthusiastic about Learning about Renewable Energy

The enthusiasm of the Anak Bangsa Christian School students colored the next stage of the “Empowering Indonesian School with Renewable Energy Demonstration” grant project supported by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Jakarta. Dozens of grade 10 students took part in training at the University of Surabaya on May 2 2024, continuing the spirit that had been instilled in the previous outreach. Under the hot sun, they were not afraid to experiment with solar panels and energy monitors from Horizon Educational. Smiles and joy radiated on their faces as their solar-powered toy car sped away. More than just assembling toys, this activity equips them with knowledge and skills in calculating renewable energy. It is hoped that this experience will foster their interest and concern for environmental sustainability. This activity at the Anak Bangsa Christian School is a continuation of the renewable energy outreach previously held by Ubaya. There, hundreds of junior high school students in Surabaya gained basic knowledge about renewable energy and its various potentials. Ubaya hopes that this program can inspire more schools to participate in studying and implementing renewable energy. Cooperation is needed from various parties, such as government, academics and society, to realize a clean and sustainable energy transition in Indonesia. Challenges still exist, such as limited infrastructure and high costs. However, with determination and cooperation, Ubaya believes that Indonesia’s young generation can be the key to unlocking a greener and more sustainable future
