Renewable Energy Socialization Raises the Spirit of Surabaya’s Young Generation

The University of Surabaya (UBAYA) through the Center for Environmental and Renewable Energy Studies (PuSLET UBAYA) is collaborating with the Embassy of the Czech Republic and the Surabaya City Education Office to instill awareness about renewable energy in the younger generation. The activity entitled “Empowering Indonesian School with Renewable Energy Demonstration” reached 200 junior high school students in Surabaya. The event, which was held on March 16 2024, aims to prepare students for the Surabaya Student Research Competition (LPPS) which will be held in May 2024. In his speech, the Head of the Middle School Division of the Surabaya City Education Service, Ahmad Sya’roni, S.Pd., M .Pd., and Pantala Co-Founder, Linus Nara, emphasized the importance of cultivating research habits from an early age. Students are divided into small classes to study renewable energy material and its relevance to their research topic. Through multidisciplinary learning, students are invited to connect science, social sciences, mathematics and computer science with renewable energy. Apart from learning theory, students are also involved in practical activities such as assembling a solar-powered toy car and making research idea posters. Their passion and enthusiasm was clearly visible when they followed instructions and competed to show the results of their work. Colorful posters created by students show interesting research ideas about harnessing solar, wind and water energy. These ideas reflect their interest in renewable energy and their scholarship. It is hoped that this activity will be a starting point in forming a young generation of Indonesians who care about and understand the importance of renewable energy. It is hoped that the knowledge gained can be shared with their friends and trigger innovative and sustainable research ideas.
